Second Prize in the ”Place du Pontet” Competition, Switzerland

The landscape concept draws on the natural character of the Sorge River and its floodplain habitats. A sequence of open meadows, light planting and denser woodland is translated across the site, creating a diverse and clearly legible landscape. Different planting typologies respond to varying soil and moisture conditions while contributing to natural rainwater management.

This landscape logic continues into the school grounds, creating a continuous landscape in which vegetation gradually becomes less dense towards the buildings. Permeable surfaces, gravel and light mineral materials reinterpret the character of the river landscape. Materials from the site are reused as part of a resource-conscious and circular approach.

At the heart of the project, the Place du Pontet becomes the new public centre. The approximately 2,400 m² open square provides space for festivals and events while also functioning as a village square and everyday meeting place. A central fountain reinforces the identity and communal character of the new public space.
