POLA wins the Berlin-Brandenburg Landscape Architecture Award 2026
The jury explained its decision as follows: The Spore & Publix Foundation Ensemble demonstrates what landscape architecture is capable of and the significance it has for creating attractive urban environments and high-quality urban density.
Starting from the complex setting of the foundation ensemble on the vibrant, traffic-filled Hermannstraße, a convincing and typologically diverse landscape-architectural transition has been created: from the welcoming forecourt, through the shielding passageway (....), to the garden adjacent to the building and finally to the quiet, introverted cemetery.
The openness of the site to a wide range of uses is particularly impressive, as is the carefully selected quality of the materials and the commitment to achieving sustainability, including through reuse, upcycling and rainwater collection.
Planting drawn from the spectrum of the Märkisch cultural landscape contributes to the poetic character of the site’s spatial and typological diversity.
With great sensitivity, a well-maintained and diverse range of spaces and uses has been created on a relatively small site: a place with a history and a future, deserving of the Berlin-Brandenburg Landscape Architecture Award 2026.
