Honourable Mention for the Griebnitzsee Waterfront Park in Potsdam

We are delighted to have received an honourable mention for our design for the redevelopment of the waterfront park along Lake Griebnitzsee in Potsdam.

The design combines the history of the former border zone with a natural and restrained landscape concept. Existing vegetation, clearings and views towards the lake form the basis for a varied sequence of spaces along the waterfront path. Small, precisely placed interventions enhance the existing qualities of the site.

A distinctive element is the planting of wild cherry trees along the waterfront. When in bloom, they subtly trace the former border and recall the history of the site. This layer of remembrance is complemented by a double strip of paving marking the former border and information totems along the Berlin Wall Trail.

New jetties form the central spaces for recreation and activity. Depending on their location, they provide access for swimming, canoeing and boats, or offer places to sit and enjoy views across the lake.
