The team from POLA was awarded the second prize in the competition for the redesign of Bürgel Marketplace. The proposal transforms the former transit space into an urban heart, open, inviting, and creating space for encounters.
The new square places the town hall at the center of city life and links Kirchplatz, the Ceramics Museum, and Dreiecksplatz in Badergasse along a gentle axis. Open areas and a city garden in the northwest invite people to linger, offering calm while remaining connected to the urban rhythm.
Existing elements such as the pavilion and fountain are preserved, with the fountain restored and the pavilion carefully opened. In this way, a place emerges that harmoniously brings together tradition, craftsmanship, and the present.
The square provides spaces for encounters, retreat, and everyday life simultaneously, becoming a place where the city’s history can be felt and people can come together.
